Information for Out-of-Town Guests

We’re SO thrilled you’re coming to Avi’s B’nai Mitzvah!

We know that we live faraway, and getting here is not easy. We do not take for granted that coming for Avi’s B’nai Mitzvah takes a real commitment of time and money.

We are honoured that you are traveling to share this simcha with us.

Please join us for a special Shabbat dinner for out-of-town guests at our house, Friday evening at 6pm Pacific Time.

Our house, and actually all the events, are walkable from any downtown hotel.

There is a particularly beautiful scenic sea-wall walk between our home and downtown, as well as a regular city-block walk. It is about a 60+minute walk.

Alternatively, the #15 bus travels regularly between our house and downtown- just ask Avi, who takes it to and from school each day. Also, there’s always Uber.

The food at all events will be vegetarian/pescatarian.

What to do

Victoria is famous for its gardens. If that’s your kind of thing, these are the ones for you.

Victoria also is home to some wonderful independent book stores. Downtown, don’t miss Munro Books, one of Canada’s best independent bookstores, or the sprawling used book emporium Russell Books.

Downtown is also filled with funky thrift stores and delightful boutiques for browsing- take some time to explore on foot, or rent a bike and explore the bike lanes that can take you through the city and along Dallas Road.

Don’t miss Beacon Hill Park just south of downtown- follow the caw of the peacocks to find its flower-lined paths.

Slightly farther afield, we love exploring the rainforest & rugged coast of East Sooke Park, the farms & wineries of The Cowichan Valley, and the eclectic beauty & charm of the Southern Gulf Islands

Special late June adventures include swimming, kayaking, or paddle-boarding in the Gorge at Bamfield Park in Vic West, at Thetis Lake in Langford, anywhere in our ocean, or braving the chill of the glacial waters at Sooke Potholes.

It’s also a perfect time to go camping! While some campsites need to be reserved through BC Parks Camping, there are also many first-come, first-serve sites. We love Ruckle Provincial Park on Salt Spring Island, which is right along the water.

(Oh yeah: we also hear that the nearby cities of Vancouver and Seattle are kind of nice.)
